Design
Platypus is a cargo ship that is in the middle of the sea. There is only one gamemode for this map, which is Survival.
Players must survive for 5 minutes before being evacuated by a helicopter that waits for one minute. This map can prove difficult to zombies, due to the number of camping spots and small, yet elevated, area.
Walther's Notes - Restored
This note was written by Walther and found soaked in muddied water. It has since been partially rewritten through conjecture.
Teeming with life, an international cargo vessel of sorts bound from point A to B caught our attention. Lovely chaps they were, not as much as they were arrogant deciding we'd be better off without our guns, but you take what you can get in this accursed world. Unfortunately, it appears as though we've taken from the wrong crowd.
Coughs heard from below, banging on the flooring of the metallic bridge, and we hadn't even secured our weaponry from the ship's security force. One can only imagine what ensued, but I'll only say we refused to go down without a fight, and now we've total control over the captain's private collection; an armory consisting of old-school weaponry.
A putrid scent rises from the lower decks, putting my mates and I on edge. I shall write to you some more after this.
Background Story
A large cargo ship bound for the United States from Russia, the Platypus carried with it all sorts of people from different walks of life. Immigrants, government officials, diplomats from the UN, and more. With airports closed and infected known to roam land alone, the Platypus was deemed a safe voyage to all who stepped foot on its hulking vessel.
That was.. until the undead began to rise from the lower decks. It seems they had forgotten about the many peasants who climbed aboard.
Design
Survivors spawn at the bow of the ship and usually make their way towards the bridge. There is a metal wire that runs along two masts that players can walk along, providing quick access between the bow and the bridge.
The bridge is part of the main building that survivors usually hold out in and is also the only way to access the hull. The hull, located under the main deck, is full of movable boxes and is a good place for survivors to camp. The only way to access the hull is through the bridge.
In the hull of the ship, players can move boxes to create makeshift forts and structures. Along with planks and turrets, survivors can hold out for a long period of time in the hull.
Tips
- Try to bring the Chinalake, as it's good for flinging Tanks and getting easy cash.
- Smokers and Cavebats are dangerous when crossing the metal wire. Stay alert.
- Survivors can move boxes in the hull and reinforce them with planks, from the Hammer and Turrets to create forts that are hard for zombies to defeat.
- If the Helicopter explodes, zombies must breach these defences.
- Boomer explosions on the main deck reach into the hull.
- Bringing a Chainsaw or Katana will increase your chance of survival due to how small this map is.
- A Rambo Knife will also help due to how tall it is vertically.
Trivia
- The Helicopter has a 50% chance to explode.
- Platypus is based off the ship with the same name in GTA IV.
- This was remade as the M.S Antares in the R2DA.
